Amber

Amber specialises in English Literature and English Language, supporting students from 11+ preparation through Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level, and she is also happy to work with students following the IB. Her degree in both literature and language allows her to move fluently between close textual analysis and the technical foundations of written English, and she is confident applying essay and comprehension technique across different examinations and boards.

Amber’s tutoring experience began with a month spent in India with the Akshar Foundation, an education charity, where she taught English to a small group of teenagers aged 15 to 18 who had fallen behind their classmates. Working with them daily over several weeks, she rebuilt their grammatical foundations before guiding them towards independent writing, and helped them grow noticeably in confidence and spoken fluency. Earlier, as an ambassador for the Holocaust Educational Trust, she designed and led textual analysis workshops for Year 10 pupils, and she has also supported a student with learning difficulties in developing both their understanding of lesson content and their organisational skills.

In her teaching, Amber begins by understanding how each student learns before shaping her lessons around their needs. She breaks challenging material into manageable steps, starting with the fundamentals and building steadily towards confident, independent work. In English she places particular emphasis on exam technique and on approaching questions methodically, an understanding that students can then carry across different texts and papers. She is attentive to confidence throughout, drawing quieter or more hesitant students into fuller engagement with their work.

Amber holds a BA (Hons) in English Literature and Language from Exeter College, University of Oxford. During her degree she was selected for a competitive scholarship exchange at Williams College in Massachusetts, one of the leading liberal arts colleges in the United States. She completed her A Levels in English Literature, History, Politics and an Extended Project with grades of AAAA, alongside ten GCSEs at grades 8 and 9.

Her strong grounding in both literature and language, combined with hands-on teaching experience and a patient, well-structured approach, makes Amber well suited to helping students build their skills and confidence in English and achieve their best across 11+, GCSE, A Level and IB.
