Lily

Lily is a Cambridge-educated Classics specialist who tutors Latin and Ancient Greek at GCSE and A Level, alongside English Literature. She graduated from St John’s College, University of Cambridge, with First Class Honours in Classics before completing an MPhil with Distinction, specialising in Latin verse. She was awarded a College Scholarship and the Henry Arthur Thomas Travel Exhibition for outstanding examination results.

Lily brings a deep understanding of classical languages and literature to her teaching. She has experience supporting younger students through informal one-to-one tutoring and previously worked at Monkton Prep School, where she taught library classes across all year groups and introduced a school-wide reading and assessment programme.

Her teaching centres on close reading, careful analysis and a genuine enthusiasm for literature. Whether working through a Latin translation, exploring an Ancient Greek text or examining a work of English Literature, Lily encourages students to engage thoughtfully with the material and develop their own interpretations. Lily achieved A*A*A* at A Level in English Literature, French and Latin, alongside twelve A* grades at GCSE, and was Head Girl at Monkton Senior School.Outside tutoring, she works as a specialist rare-books bookseller and cataloguer, researching historical texts, manuscripts and literary works. Her combination of academic excellence, literary expertise and enthusiasm for teaching makes her particularly well suited to students seeking to strengthen their understanding of classical languages and literature.
