Lucas

Mathematics, Physics and Admissions

Lucas specialises in university admissions preparation, particularly for Engineering, Physics and Mathematics applicants to Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial. He offers dedicated support for the ESAT, focusing on the Mathematics and Physics modules, alongside mock interviews and wider Oxbridge application guidance. He also tutors Mathematics and Physics, and supports university-level students in engineering subjects within his specialism.

Lucas has over a decade of teaching and mentoring experience across mathematics, physics and engineering. Much of his recent work centres on Oxbridge admissions, where he prepares applicants for the ESAT and for interview, having built his own detailed bank of worked solutions to past papers. He has developed these resources through close study of the exam, solving each paper and producing step-by-step explanations for his students. Alongside admissions work, he has taught at university level, most recently delivering fluid mechanics tutorials to undergraduates in Spain, and has mentored students in engineering subjects connected to his research, including fluid mechanics, aerodynamics and heat transfer.

His teaching is calm, supportive and rigorous. He develops students’ critical thinking through guided questioning, independent practice and targeted feedback, placing particular emphasis on logical structure, justifying assumptions and communicating technical ideas precisely. For admissions students, he builds readiness through interview simulation and careful error correction, drawing on his own experience of the standards top universities expect.

Lucas is completing a PhD in Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Oxford, having previously earned an MRes in Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Cambridge and an MEng and BEng in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cagliari, where he graduated top of his cohort. His research specialism is aerothermal engineering, spanning the movement of fluids, air and heat exchange.

His combination of advanced engineering training at Oxford and Cambridge, genuine expertise in the ESAT and Oxbridge admissions, and a decade of teaching experience makes him well suited to ambitious students preparing for competitive applications in Engineering, Physics and Mathematics.
